The unimaginable beauty, grandeur and sheer size of Europe’s largest national park, which is the area surrounding the Vatnajökull glacier in South-East Iceland, is something one cannot expect to be able to experience in a few hours, few days is more like it! The Vatnajökull glacier is the biggest glacier outside the Polar Regions and the adventures and vistas it offers are endless. Scale the flanks of Mt. Kristínartindar and gaze upon the highest summit in Iceland and the enormous icecap it pierces. Explore Fjallsjökull, the most beautiful outlet glacier in the world and cruise on the breathtaking Glacier Lagoon. Visit Ingólfshöfði cape where the first settlers spent their first winter and puffins and sea birds now rule with sheer numbers. You will also briefly visit Landmannalaugar on your way to Skaftafell.
Guaranteed departures: Every Monday starting at 8:30 AM from the BSI bus terminal from the 1st of June – 31st of August. Minimum 2 persons, maximum 20. Make sure you book your spot on the tour with good notice.
Rough Itinerary:
Monday: Transfer from Reykjavik via Landamannalaugar to Skaftafell.
Tuesday: Glacier hiking and sailing on the Glacier Lagoon.
Wednesday: Hiking the Kristínartindar mountain.
Thursday: Mountain bike tour in Skaftafell and a visit to Ingólfshöfði.
Friday: Transfer back to Reykjavik.

Detailed itinerary:
Day 1
On Monday morning you will head out with the TREX bus no. 18 from the BSÍ bus terminal cruising all the way to Landmannalaugar hot springs where the bus stops briefly and then continues the beautiful Fjallabak (behind the mountains) mountain track all the way down to road one and then onwards to Skaftafell.
Day 2
On Tuesday you will visit the most breathtaking and inspiring nature that Vatnajökull National Park has to offer. Wander along the Fjallsárlón glacier lagoon and then on to the glacier tongue itself, Fjallsjökull, where you will find yourself surrounded by spectacular ice formations and crevasses. Then take a boat ride on the world famous Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon where you will sail among enormous icebergs with Europe’s largest glacier in the background.
Day 3
On Wednesday morning we will start early for the the hike to the top Mt. Kristínartindar from which we will have unsurpassed views over the Vatnajökull glacier, Skaftafell and Iceland’s highest peak, the Hvannadalshnúkur. On the way we will hike through the national park with an expert guide gaining an in depth understanding of the park before we scale the flanks of the mountain and loop back a different way down to Skaftafell. This is a great mountain hike in breathtaking surroundings (no pun intended : )
Day 4
This is a day to relax and rest up for your last adventure day! Shopping and sightseeing in Reykjavik with a visit to the world famous Blue Lagoon in the afternoon. Come to our shop down town Reykjavík for maps and info, we will book you on the Blue Lagoon bus, offering six different departure times every day.
Day 5
On your last morning in Skaftafell we go for walk up to the spectacular Svartifoss waterfall with its black hexagonal basalt columns and enjoy the last views of the magical Vatnajökull National Park before heading back with the TREX bus no. 12/12a at 13:20 from the service terminal in Skaftafell.

Tuesday: 8:30 AM for Glacier Hike & Sailing, back in Skaftafell at 17:00
Wednesday: 8:30 AM for Hiking Mt. Kristínartindar, back in Skaftafell at 16:00
Thursday: 8:30 AM for MTB tour and Ingólfshöfði visit, back in Skaftafell @ 17:00
Friday: 13:20 PM from the service terminal in Skaftafell 19:00
