Tour Description

Each winter, Iceland’s glaciers reveal something new—and in 2025, Sólheimajökull uncovered a spectacular surprise: the Azure Ice Cave. This glowing cavern of smooth blue ice is the closest natural ice cave to Reykjavík, just a 2.5-hour drive from the capital.
Your journey begins at the Sólheimajökull parking lot, where your guide will gear you up with crampons, helmet, and glacier equipment. From there, you’ll set out across the frozen surface, passing crevasses, ridges, and striking ice formations as you hike about 4 km (2.5 mi) in total during the tour.

The highlight comes when you step into the Azure Ice Cave itself—arched ceilings, glassy textures, and luminous shades of aquamarine surrounding you. It’s a rare, short-season phenomenon only accessible from September through April.
After plenty of time to explore and take photos, you’ll return across the glacier with your guide, ending back at the parking lot.
